Why do some mothers commit maternal filicide?

Most times maternal filicide occurs when the mother is mentally ill or insane. There are some other reasons  that mothers commit this crime. Some mothers hear voices in their heads telling them to kill their children. That is an example of a mother being insane. Another reason is mothers believe that it is in the best interest of their kid if they die. In some cases mothers don't mean to kill their children but they abuse their children too much. Although it may start off as just abuse after sustaining a large amount of it the child may die. Another way mothers commit the crime which is very unlikely is when mothers kill their children in order to get back at their husband. Euripides showed this in his play Medea when Medea killed her children to get revenge on Jason her husband. Also some mothers kill their children because they are a burden on their lives. However no matter how this happens it is wrong and should never occur.

Understanding Early Chinese History

This article shows how Taoist text helps deepen the understanding of Early Chinese History. I think this because this article shows how the amount of Taoist's have changed. In Early Chinese history the only Taoist's were Taoist preists. Now like it says in the story you can walk into a temple and say I want to be a Taoist. The exact text from the story says, "There are ordinary people who join temples and call themselves lay Buddhists or Taoists." For all of time China has always had an emperor but now with Taoism they have a theocracy based around a celestial master or  Tianshi who was supposed to create a new political structure.  The structure that was going to be used was gonna treat every person fairly and with the same respect. This was the opposite of confucianism because Taosim was going with the flow but Confucionism is that you need to put in the effort to succeed.  Unfortunately the political structure in China did not last. Taosim is an important religion in China, Thailnd, Laos, Vietnam. The Taoist's left behind no physical evidence so it was hard for historians to learn about the dynasty. That was how Taoist texts help deepen the understanding of Early Chinese History.

Is our world real?

At first I thought that there is no chance that we are living in a simulated universe. But then Mr.Reiff told us about how our computer skills are getting better and how would we know that we haven't made a simulation system that looks very real and you would have no idea that there is a difference. Now I kind of agree with Neil deGrasse Tyson from the Are We Living in a Computer Simulation- Scientific American article. He said "put the odds at 50-50 that our entire existence is a program on someone else’s hard drive." Although there is a very high possibility that our world is a simulation there is still a big chance of our world not being a simulation but being a reality. One piece of evidence that supports that is "Cogito ergo sum", said by RenĂ© Descartes. In English this means I think therefore I am. This shows that nobody can know that people besides themselves are thinking things. You can only know that you are if you can think. I know that I am so I personally think that there is a lot smaller than a 50% of the world being fake.

Holocaust survivors compared to the book of job

There are many differences and similarities between the book of job and the article called The Search  for Faith which was a story about some peoples holocaust experience. One of the similarities is Job, Moshe Yosef Daum, and Fela Nussbaum all suffered from something God did or didn't do. In the book of Job he tortures Job by taking away his kids, his house, and all of his animals. However for Moshe Yosef Daum and Fela Nussbaum it was what God didn't do. They were both survivors of the Holocaust and wonder why God did not help all the Jews throughout the holocaust.

"At the Passover seder, my mother would get annoyed as my father recited the Exodus story. She would ask him, if God did so many miracles during biblical times, then why hadn’t she seen any such miracles during the Holocaust?" This shows how God didn't help the Jews (about 6 million) while they got murdered. However in Biblical times he acted differently and helped the Jews a lot like giving Job all of his stuff back after taking it and helping Noah build and get all the animals on his arc.

Some of the differences between these two stories is in the book of Job all of his stuff is given back to him after all the suffering that he went through. However in The Search for Faith there is no way God could return her child or first husband and all the family that they both lost. That is why I think Job was able to restore his faith in God but Fela Nussbaum still thinks that God only helped the Jews in biblical times.

Comparing the book of job to other stories

The book of Job is very similar and different to other stories that we have read in the Old Testament. The book of Job is similar to the Sacrifice of Isaac. I think this because in both of these books they both make offerings to god, however in the Sacrifice of Isaac God wanted him to kill his son but he stops and has him kill a ram instead. But in the book of Job, Job loses everything he has his family, his animals, and lastly he loses his faith in God. God is a little unreasonable in both stories. In the Sacrifice of Isaac he is forcing Abraham to kill his own son. But even worse in the book of Job he killed or took away all of his animals and he had over like 20,000 animals. That is a lot of animals. Also he killed all of his family. God made the house collapse on them. Worst of all God did all of this because of a bet he made with Satan that said Job would never be unloyal to God. After all this somehow Job still thought that this was all for some reason and God had a bigger plan to killing his family and animals. However this story is different in some ways. Like in the Sacrifice of Isaac God wouldn't let Abraham kill his son so he sent an angel down to slop him. However in the book of Job I thought God would somehow just threaten Job and not actually kill all of his animals and his family. But he did and that made me think of God like a jerk while in the Sacrifice of Isaac I thought he was Isaac's savior and a good person to realize that nobody should have to kill their own son.

High school experience

Throughout the first month of high school it has been very fun. But there have also been some bad times. Some of the bad experiences were the late nights up till 12 studying for science and math. The worst part of high school is probably the amount of work. The the amount of work in eight grade was so much less than that of ninth grade. However high school has also been the most fun year of school. First of all we got IPads, which were very cool. Also everyday for lunch we have the option to go out of school for lunch. Another great thing are the teachers. All of my teachers this year are very nice and they help me handle the workload given to me. I also like how instead of having a sub like in middle school sometimes the teacher will tell you they will be absent and then you will have a free and be able to leave school and hang out with your friends. I liked middle school a lot but it is nothing compared to high school. As of now high school has been the best school experience yet and I hope it stays that way.

god characterization mind map

Now that I have completed this assignment I have a different point of view on God. At first I thought God was a powerful man who helped everybody when they needed it. However after reading Genesis I now believe that God was still a powerful man but he used it unreasonably and he was a bad man. I think this because the whole world should not die just because of a group of people. First he could have tried to solve the problems of the people who were rebelling and not listening to his rules and ideas. If this continues to happen and people still kept rebelling I would get rid of the people only in that specific place. I would not make a flood that destroys every living thing. Although I think he was wrong to do what he did I would still tell somebody about it so they can preserve life like what God told Noah. God described exactly how to build the arc and what to put in it. He described it as "This is how you are to make it: the length of the ark three hundred cubits, its breadth fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits.
" Even though I would agree with him for some things, over all I think he was wrong get rid of the whole world for just a group of people. I think the best option would be like in the Epic of Gilgamesh when the city of Uruk was flooded not the whole world. If God did that everybody that he cared about or was a good person could leave and he can get rid of only the persons that were rebelling.

Who to blame for Adam and Eve getting kicked out of the garden of Eden

In Genesis two and three we read that Adam and Eve were kicked out of the Garden of Eden. They were kicked out because God specifically told Adam, "you are free to eat from any tree in the garden but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil for when you eat of it you will surely die."  However then God created Eve, and Eve insisted that they should eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. As they did this and God found out they were banished from the garden and now they started noticing that they were naked when before it was natural. After reading that she did this I thought it was not god's fault that she ate from the tree. She was offered other food from the other trees but she decided to eat it. Like Mr.Reiff said in class. if you haven't eaten in two days and somebody puts food in front of you obviously you will be tempted and you will probably eat it. But if he put my favorite food pizza in front of me but also put other food in front of me I would be able to eat the other food and not be as tempted to eat the pizza. The second situation is like how Adam and Eve are treated. God offered them other fruit from other trees rather than the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. That is why I would blame Eve for getting them kicked out of the Garden.

compare and contrast different flood myths

There are many flood myths form around the world but they all have different details that set them apart. In class we have learned about two flood myths first the Epic of Gilgamesh and second Noah's Arc. I have researched for more and found the flood myth of southwest Tanzania. This story and the Epic of Gilgamesh have a lot similar and a lot different. Like most flood myths the Epic of Gilgamesh and the southwest Tanzania flood myth both include a person getting told by god that a flood was coming. Also they both sent out birds to see if the land was dry and if it was able to live on. However in the Epic of Gilgamesh the flood is only over the City of Uruk but in the Tanzania flood was over the whole world. That is the reason why the two people in the Tanzanian flood myth had to bring animals but in the Epic of Gilgamesh he does not need to bring animals because it is only over his city and all the animals besides in the City of Uruk are safe and are not going to die. That is how these two stories compare and contrast.

Welcome to my blog

Welcome to my blog. My name is Sammy Ben-Levi and I am a student at Roslyn High School. I live in Roslyn with my family. I have one brother and one sister. I like to do many things. For example I like to play basketball, volleyball, and I like to read. I am a Jets fan and a Yankees fan and I love to watch them play. I am very excited to learn about new things in Freshman Humanities this year. The reason I am making this blog is so I can look back on my English high school experience.
